All of our switchgrass is sold as pounds of pure live seed (PLS) rather than simply bulk weight. That means you are paying for only viable seed rather than chaff or other debris common in native grasses.

Due to their small size and other qualities, native grass seeds inherently include more inviable seeds, chaff, seed hulls and other inert matter than, for example, corn seed, which is relatively easy to condition and bag. As a result, planting rates are based on the calculation of Pure Live Seed (PLS). PLS = Total Viable Seed % x Purity%.

To aid in planting calculations, Blade switchgrass labels include the Pure Live Seed (PLS) percentage.
